In this course students will learn how
to design for dynamic systems, where
the information is always changing. Building
on the foundation of Web Design
I, students will use tools such as PHP/mySQL,
XML, CSS and Javascript in
order to create database-driven websites
which communicate up-to-the-minute
information that can be securely updated
from any computer connected to the
Internet. Throughout the semester students
will create their own front- and
back-end projects, explore how information
design is used in major websites
such as Google, Amazon and the New York
Times, and discuss the interaction
of graphic design and databases with guest
lecturers. Prerequisite: CG218,
CG222, or DM2250

- Flash Animation on the Web / Studio

This course teaches
students to use one of the best tools
available for creating all kinds of animations
on the Web. From ad banners to games to
visually stunning sites, Macromedia Flash
is the tool of preference. Topics include
drawing; importing/exporting; animating
frames, scenes, and actions; using layers;
adding sound; and exporting movies. Prerequisite:
CG102/DM1200 Digital Art I; CG138/CG149/DM2210
Illustrator I; or FN1000 Communication
Design.

- Interactive Web Design I / Studio /

In this course, students will learn how
to communicate to audiences on the Web.
Information design, layout, and navigation
will all be thoroughly covered. Students
will work towards fluency in XHTML and
CSS by the end of the course. Additionally,
students will learn how to upload content
to a server and manage a simple website.
This will provide a basic framework of
knowledge and a foundation for future
study in Web Design. Prerequisite: CG102
or DM1200 Digital Art I; or CG104, CG120
or DM2220 Photoshop I; or FN1000 Communication
Design. Students should be capable of
slicing and optimizing graphics using
Photoshop or ImageReady, and should have
a grasp of preparing graphics for the
Web.

- Intro to Sound Production & Design

MDIA420 introduces students to audio
recording, mixing and mastering skills,
as well as creative applications of the
techniques on campus, in the workplace,
and at home. Focused on teaching audio
recording fundamentals, this course will
also concentrate on the history of recording
& recording technologies; recording
personnel & duties; legal aspects
of sound production, and the role of the
creative process in the world of constantly
emerging technologies.

- Advanced Web Design Using CSS / Studio

Continuing on ART 315, this course introduces
students to advanced web design techniques
using Cascading Style Sheets, or CSS.
Students will learn standards-compliant
formatting; color and typography; table-free
design; cross-platform and cross-browser
techniques, and creating multi-column
layouts, as well as discuss where CSS
is likely to take the Internet. Req: ART
315 or permission of department.

- Video Art Using the Final Cut Pro Suite

This course will introduce students to
the art of creating interesting and well
designed motion graphics using Macintosh
computers and the Final Cut Pro Suite.
Students will learn skills, tools, tips
and techniques needed for real-world multimedia
creation and by course's end will have
a strong understanding of video art and
post-production.

- Web Design Using Dreamweaver & Flash

This course will introduce students to
the art of creating interesting and well
designed websites. Students will learn
skills, tools and techniques needed for
real-world website design and by course's
end will have a thorough understanding
of website production using Dreamweaver,
Photoshop & Flash as the primary programs.
